I LOVE MELVIN (1953)
Directed by Don Weis. 67 mins
Stars Debbie Reynolds, Donald O’Connor, Una Merkel, Richard Anderson with a cameo featuring Robert Taylor.
This follow up film for Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor to “Singin’ In The Rain” is a delightful, snappy Technicolored treat with one dynamic show-stopping musical number after another! Debbie Reynolds even plays a football in one! The storyline of a budding photographer for Look magazine determined to get a girl he has snapped onto it’s pages is not the focus of this energetic toe tapping screen outing which will stay in the viewers mind!! One of the last made in glorious eye-popping Technicolor at MGM. It illustrates the sheer talent and skill that existed at studios such as MGM turning out one brilliant musical after another. From the mid 50’s onward, “copper bottomed” Broadway hits became the staple of the screen musical, and the raising of the exhibition stakes via the use of 70mm film with its 4 track sound.
Period shorts will be screened prior to intermission.
BYO picnic dinner. Table seating. Supper available prior to the film commencing.
